Des O'Neill's Preparation Courses offers interview-preparation in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide in late August and early September (just prior to interviews at Australian Medical Schools in September/October) to those who take one of our Pre-GAMSAT courses. Our mentoring continues through to the interview. We are with you all the way.

After receiving Gamsat results in May, optionally and freely discussed them with us, and made application for Medical and/or Dental School in June, candidates will get a mailout about the Interview Workshops in late July. Payment for the workshop can be made at that time.

Nevertheless, even having achieved a good GAMSAT result, many candidates feel daunted by the prospect of the interview. For many, it is their first interview where the outcome has lasting significance.

The interview will reveal the candidate’s intelligence and communication skills as well as their mature understanding of human relationships and of ethical situations that arise within a multi-cultural society. In order to give quality responses, candidates need to have thought through and verbalised their expectations and motivation and need to be confronted with some of the ethical issues that are inherent in life as a medical or dental practitioner. In the increasingly competitive environment of the interview, candidates need a mentor to help clarify their motivations and expectations and to widen their perspective.

In our five-hour Post-GAMSAT Interview Workshop, every participant has a full practice interview based on the criteria for and the methodologies used by the University to which they have been called for interview. As well, each takes on the role of interviewer to gain a perspective from the other side of the table. We work through and relate together the various criteria that are used at interview by the Universities. There are group-learning sessions in which we recommend a variety of preparatory readings and personalised tasks. The workshop also provides a framework through which participants can clarify their motivation and their expectations not only of the interview itself but also of the lifestyle that will follow the offer of a place in a Graduate Medical or Dental Program.

This workshop provides a unique platform to springboard candidates into the interviews with the confidence, attitude, and the knowledge and experience they need to succeed.

The cost of the Interview Workshop in 2010 is $140.
